hop is free, open source and given as is. you may use it, copy it and change it. nobody promises it will never break, and what you do with it is yours to answer for. the details are below.
the licence
the app is published under the MIT licence, copyright 2026 anton shakirov. that licence lets you use the app for anything, including commercially, copy it, change it and pass it on, on one condition: keep the copyright notice and the licence text. the full text ships with the app and lives in the repository next to the code.
what the licence does not allow is passing the app off as your own work, and using the name hop or its mark to promote something else.
no warranty
the app is given as is, without warranty of any kind, and the author is not liable for damage arising from its use. that is the licence talking, and here is the same thing in plain words: this is a free tool written by one person. before you convert, unpack or clean up something you cannot afford to lose, try it on a copy.
updates and availability
there is no promise that the site, the update server or the content delivery network are up at any given moment, that a particular version stays available forever, or that development continues. the app keeps working without any of that: it has no server of its own and nothing about it stops when the site does.
the helper programs
torrents, video conversion and file archives rely on separate programs that are downloaded only when you turn those features on: the torrent engine rqbit, the media tool ffmpeg and the archiver 7-Zip. they are somebody else's work, each under its own licence, and hop only fetches and runs them.
what you do with it
hop moves the bytes you ask it to move. what you download over torrents, whether you have the right to it, what you recognise from a screen and what you paste from the clipboard is your responsibility and nobody else's. the app has no way to know, and its author has no way to check.

the texts and images on this site belong to the author. the app's source code is a separate matter and is covered by the licence above.
changes to this text
the date at the top says when this page last changed. the licence of an already released version cannot be revoked: what you downloaded stays yours under the terms it came with.
